Privacy Policy

Plateback is a private place to remember restaurants and the food and drinks that mattered to you.

Effective July 29, 2026

Overview

This Privacy Policy explains how Plateback (“Plateback,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information when you use the Plateback iOS app and related services. We do not sell your personal information, and Plateback does not use your information for third-party advertising.

Information we collect

Information you provide

  • Profile name.
  • Restaurants, tags, preferences, captions, and other details you save.
  • Photos and other media you choose to import or share with Plateback.
  • Restaurant and Instagram links you choose to import.

Photo information

When available and relevant to features you use, Plateback may process a photo’s capture date, dimensions, and location metadata. This information helps organize photos by date and suggest nearby restaurants. Plateback only receives photos you explicitly select or share.

Location information

With your permission, Plateback uses your device location to center maps, rank nearby restaurant results, and suggest restaurants near a shared photo. Saved restaurants also include their address and map coordinates. You can manage location access in iOS Settings.

Device and service information

Plateback creates an installation credential and an internal user identifier so the app can work without requiring sign-up. Our server may also process standard technical information such as IP address, request time, request status, app-client version, and diagnostic information needed to operate, secure, and troubleshoot the service.

How we use information

  • Provide, personalize, and maintain Plateback’s features.
  • Store and retrieve your restaurants, lists, tags, preferences, and photos.
  • Organize photos and make location-based restaurant suggestions.
  • Import information from links you choose to share.
  • Protect the service, diagnose errors, and respond to support requests.

Services used by Plateback

Some features interact with services provided by Apple, Google, and Instagram, including maps, place information, and content you choose to import. Those companies may process information under their own privacy policies when you use their services or open their links. Plateback also uses infrastructure providers to host its API, database, and user-uploaded media.

Sharing of information

We do not sell your information. Restaurants and lists are private by default. When you choose to create a share link, anyone who receives that opaque link can view the shared restaurant or list, including its restaurant details, tags, preferences, captions, and photos. Deleting the underlying restaurant or list makes its share link unavailable.

We otherwise disclose information only when needed to operate Plateback through service providers acting on our behalf, when you direct us to interact with another service, to protect users or the service, or when required by law.

Storage, security, and retention

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect your information. No storage or transmission system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

We retain saved content while it is needed to provide Plateback. Deleting a restaurant or photo removes it from your collection and schedules associated stored media for deletion. Limited operational records may be retained when reasonably necessary for security, legal compliance, backup integrity, or service reliability.

Your choices

You can edit or delete restaurants, lists, photos, tags, preferences, and your profile name within Plateback. You can permanently delete your account and its associated data from Account > Settings > Delete account. You can revoke Photos or Location access at any time in iOS Settings. For other privacy requests, contact us from the device using Plateback whenever possible so we can identify the correct account.

Children’s privacy

Plateback is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Plateback changes. We will publish the revised policy here and update its effective date when changes are material.
